Suspension revisions were the major change for ’99, softened to enhance ride comfort and reduce road noise. Competitors included the Buick LeSabre, Oldsmobile Eighty Eight and LSS, Pontiac Bonneville, and Toyota Avalon. Concordes might have either 5- or 6-passenger seating, because front bucket seats were standard but a front bench was optional. Weight dropped by nearly a hundred pounds, due to the use of aluminum for the rear suspension, hood, and both new engines.

Wheelbase remained at 113 inches, but the front-drive chassis was extensively modified. Traction control came the same way: standard on LXi, optional on LX. Antilock braking was optional, or included with the LXi package. A 4-speed automatic transmission was standard. A 225-horsepower, 3.2-liter single-cam engine went into Concordes with the upscale LXi package. Base LX models got a 200-horsepower, dual-overhead-cam 2.7-liter V6. Similar to Chrysler’s 300M and LHS (introduced during 1998), the Concorde also was closely related under the skin to the Dodge Intrepid.
